Building Collections

Cogynt Workstation workflows rely on collections to catalog events, comments, and custom fields within a single entity. The Collections widget is where collections are built and housed. Once created, collections can contain events, comments, and custom fields.

Assumptions

This guide assumes:

  • That at least one collection exists in Workstation.
  • That events have been ingested.
  • Optionally, that event notifications have been configured.

Attaching Events to Collections

Events that have been ingested can be attached to a collection to indicate that the event is relevant to the collection.

To attach an event to collections:

  1. From an open Events Stream, Notifications, or Notifications Explorer widget, locate the event.
  2. Click and drag the event into the collection open inside the Object Details Viewer. Release to attach the event.
  3. To view events within a collection that have been loaded into Object Details Viewer, click the Items tab.
  4. Drag events into another Object Details Viewer for further analysis.
    • One Object Details Viewer widget is required per event to be analyzed.
    • Events cannot open in the same Object Details Viewer as the collection they came from.
    • At least two Object Details Viewer widgets are recommended per view.
  5. Add other Object Details Viewer widgets to the working view, and repeat steps 1-4 as needed.

Events attached to collections can also be dragged into other widgets for further investigation. The Object Details Viewer must be open in your working view.

Exporting Collections

A collection can be exported as either a PDF or a CSV if the user has Read permissions to Workstation Collections Export.

To export a collection:

  1. At the top left side of an Object Details Viewer widget containing a collection, locate the export icon.
  2. Click the export icon. A menu opens containing the open collection and all possible file formats.
  3. Select the file format desired. The file is downloaded.

Note

PDF exports are enabled by building report templates via the Report Builder tool in Designer.

CSV exports are enabled by building CSV templates via the Export Builder tool in Designer.

Customizing Collections

If Custom Field Templates have been created for collections, it is possible to view collections and modify these fields with Object Details Viewer.

To edit the custom fields of collections:

  1. At the top of the Object Details Viewer widget containing a collection, click the Custom Fields tab.
  2. Confirm that custom fields are visible in the Object Details Viewer.
  3. Locate a field to edit.
    • Editable text fields contain Edit and a pencil icon (✎) on hover. Click this icon to edit an individual text or rich text field. Click Update to update the text field, or Cancel to discard the changes.
    • Select items from a dropdown menu or checkbox group as applicable. Checkbox groups display the number of items selected as numerator/denominator when at least one option is selected.
  4. Make edits to the custom fields as desired.

Note

At the bottom left of text or rich text fields, click Show More to reveal the full contents of a large volume of text.

For information on text character limits, see our documentation on creating custom field templates.
