Viewing Your Data

Cogynt Workstation offers both data visualization and tools for detailed data analysis. This work occurs within a workspace. A variety of widgets can fit into a workspace, and many workspaces are possible for different methods of analysis.

Analysts use widgets like building blocks to develop meaningful workspaces where they do their work. Widgets are placed within and dragged between each other to reveal details about specific types of data or existing events. Some common examples of Cogynt at work include:

• Viewing the details of events, including attributes such as risk_score, and charting those changes over the event's history.
• Building link analysis nodes to visualize networks of connections.
• Plotting individual or groups of contacts on an interactive map.
• Exploring or adding to existing collections.
• Exporting developed collections into detailed reports on demand.

Next, you'll set up a workspace to see some of these features for yourself.

Set up a Workspace

A workspace is completely customizable. Multiple workspaces are recommended for complex analysis. Here, you'll set one up and see all your data in one place.

From the left side drawer of the Workstation homepage, either:

• Click + New Workspace to create a workspace.
• Click an existing workspace to open it.

tip

Create and name workspace templates to duplicate specific workspaces containing useful widgets like Object Details Viewer, Events Explorer, or Notifications. Analysts can duplicate these workspace templates and continue work on multiple topics at think speed.

Workspaces need widgets to analyze specific events or data from a stream, such as a map or a link analysis widget. Widgets not only help to visualize data, but are also highly customizable to suit your needs. For example, adding Custom Fields to a collection offers customized fields specific to the needs of your analysts. Use rich text fields to provide feedback, and a variety of select and checkbox menus to offer efficient methods of resolving issues or providing updates.

To add widgets to open workspaces:

1. In the left side drawer of any open view, click the grid icon to Add Widgets. A modal opens containing a list of widgets.
2. Locate the widget to add to the workspace from the list, and then click ADD.
3. Repeat Step 2 as needed for each desired widget.
4. Click the close icon (X) beside Add Widgets to the Workspace to close the drawer.

A workspace is updated and saved automatically as you add and manage the widgets housed within it. You can resize and adjust widgets to suit the needs of any given workspace.

Post Analysis

Analysis is an ongoing task, but your team can also use data to build collections or reports.

Build Collections

A collection consists of multiple events, and its primary use is to collect feedback related to a specific subject of interest.

It may be helpful conceptually to consider a collection like a file folder that contains all underlying related events. For example, a collection of a person of interest may include events that contain:

• The subject's address
• Criminal records
• Travel records as geo data
• Links to associated persons of interest

Collections can be tagged for ease of search, assigned to other investigators or analyzers, and used in report building and assessment. Consider the following example:

Susan is a bank's Lead Data Analyst, and part of her job involves tracking potentially fraudulent action in real-time. Her directives include reducing the number of false positives her team encounters, and improving the efficiency of data collection for the review team.

Susan uses Cogynt Workstation to filter for events that fit the desired risk level, as computed in Authoring. Susan creates a stream of event notifications representing these transactions. She can sort this stream by the account owners to locate any transactions carried out by the same accounts over time.

She applies tags to a number of accounts she suspects could be fraudulent.

She creates a collection for each account owner, which includes all data related to transactions from each account. Susan can also assign these collections to other analysts on her team best equipped to review them.

Other analysts on Susan's team can collaborate extensively with a number of options. Through collections they can collaborate via comments, attach reports from external sources, add details to Custom Field Templates, and tag one another on issues for review.

Build Reports

In the previous example, Susan can also create detailed reports using data from a specific collection. Cogynt's Report Builder uses a drag and drop What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) editor to create a templated report. This report can then be re-used on demand as needed, with CSS styling available to make any report as detailed and interactive as needed.

Analysts export collections created in Workstation to a shareable PDF using Report Builder. The customizable PDF is ideal for distribution outside the Cogynt platform, or for keeping physical records.
