Building Workstation Workspaces
A user's workspaces contain widgets for various workflows critical to data analysis.
Workspaces are highly customizable dashboards designed for data analysis. Multiple workspaces can be utilized to filter multiple distinct streams of system generated events over time, or to shift the focus of analysis (such as a workspace dedicated to Collections and another to event or risk history).
Workspaces are self-contained, unless that workspace is shared as a workspace template.
This guide walks through creating user workspaces, adding and working with widgets, and managing any existing user workspaces.
Assumptions
This guide assumes you are logged into your Cogynt Workstation URL with these minimum permissions:
- Workstation Views: View and Edit
Creating Workspaces
To create a workspace:
- From the Workstation homepage in the left side drawer, click the + icon.
- In the open drawer panel, enter a Name for the new workspace.
- Provide an optional Description to help differentiate the workspace.
- Click the Create button to create the workspace.
It can be useful to have a workspace specifically for testing during Workstation setup and as new data is ingested. Use this space to test various widgets, workspace layouts, and configurations.
Once a suitable configuration is found, save it as a workspace template to duplicate it or share it with other users.
Once a workspace is created, users can populate it with widgets. Users can create as many workspaces as needed, and can easily navigate between workspaces.
Opening and Closing Existing Workspaces
Users can open one or multiple workspaces in Cogynt Workstation from the Home page.
To open a workspace:
- Locate the workspace you wish to open by its name.
- In the bottom-right of the workspace, click Open.
- Click the Home page and repeat steps 1-2 as needed to open additional workspaces.
To close a workspace:
- At the top center of your screen, locate the workspace tab.
- Click the dropdown icon, then select Close Tab.
Navigating Between Workspaces
Navigate between workspaces seamlessly to shift the focus of a workflow or build workspaces for specific data analysis.
To navigate to any other open workspace:
- At the top-center of the screen, locate the workspace tab you wish to switch to by its name.
- Click the workspace tab.
Editing Open Workspaces
Open workspaces can be edited to change the workspace's name or description.
To edit open workspaces:
- From the top navigation, click the dropdown icon on any workspace.
- Select Edit. An Edit Workspace Info modal popup opens.
- Enter a workspace name, and/or change the description as needed.
- Click Update to save the changes made to the workspace.
Deleting Workspaces
If a workspace was created by mistake, or is no longer necessary, it can be deleted.
To delete a workspace:
- In the navigation bar, click the Home tab.
- Locate the workspace you wish to delete, and click the More menu (⋮) icon to access options.
- Click Delete.
Deleted workspaces cannot be recovered. However, deleting a workspace does not delete any events, collections, or any other data.
