Cogynt for Analysts

As an analyst, your primary responsibility is gathering intelligence. You identify, analyze, and assess events in the context of a broader investigation. You are often tapped to sift through information in order to determine the who, what, where, when, and why behind key events or potential occurrences.

In this context, most of your work will be done in Cogynt Analyst Workstation. You will use Workstation to review and analyze Cogynt's findings, compiling relevant information into collections and reports.

Your main tasks in Cogynt include:

  1. Investigating events in the system.
  2. Configuring workspaces to display the data and connections you wish to review.
  3. Building collections of pertinent information and findings.
  4. Creating reports of your analysis for archival and distribution.

Each of these tasks is outlined in greater detail in the sections to follow. Where applicable, links to the appropriate pages in Cogynt's documentation are provided.

note

Workstation must be properly configured before these tasks can be performed. For more information, see Workstation Setup in the Cogynt Workstation User Guide.

Investigating Events

You will use Cogynt Workstation to review your model's findings. This includes examining what events your model has found and checking the reasons behind them.

For more information, see Workstation Use in the Cogynt Workstation User Guide.

note

Events are produced from the Cogynt Authoring application and do not appear in Workstation until they are toggled "ON" in the Data Ingestion screen of Workstation Settings.

Configuring Workspaces

You can think of workspaces as highly customizable dashboards for precision data analysis. Various widgets are available to perform a variety of tasks. By placing and arranging widgets, workspaces can be configured to help you delve more deeply into particular events, explore connections between events, visualize data, and more.

You will configure custom workspaces in Workstation to assist and enhance your investigations.

For more information, see Building Workstation Workspaces, Using the Global Events Stream, and Cogynt Workstation Widgets in the Cogynt Workstation User Guide.

Building Collections

Collections are like case files, allowing analysts to gather relevant events and information in one place. Various collaborative features, such as comment threads and shared attachments, make it possible to work on cases with other analysts.

You will build collections as you conduct your investigation to compile relevant findings.

For more information, see Case Analysis with Collections in the Cogynt Workstation User Guide.

Creating Reports

When it comes time to share or archive your investigation's findings outside of Cogynt, you will use Workstation's Report Builder to create detailed PDFs documenting what you have uncovered.

For more information, see Report Builder in the Cogynt Workstation User Guide.
