Managing Tags

Cogynt Authoring's Tag Management utility provides full control over all tags in a project. The utility is accessible from the editors of all model artifacts that support tagging:

  • Event patterns
  • Event types
  • User data schemas
  • Lexicons

This section describes the functions of the Tag Management utility in detail.

Viewing Tags

The Tag Management utility provides a convenient way to view all the tags within a project.

To view a project's tags:

  1. In the Tag Management window, click the Project dropdown menu, then select the appropriate project. Each tag within the project has its own row in the table below the dropdown.
  2. Note the details of each tag in the table:
    1. Color indicates the color associated with the tag.
    2. Name displays the tag's name.
    3. Created shows the date and time of the tag's creation.
    4. Modified shows the date and time when the most recent changes to the tag occurred.
    5. Linked shows the number of entities linked to the tag.
  3. On the left side of a tag's row, click Expand to see the details for its linked entities:
    1. Entity Type indicates the modeling artifact of the entity.
    2. Entity Name displays the name of the entity.
  4. At the bottom of the window, click the Rows per page dropdown to change the number of tag rows displayed on each page.
  5. On the bottom-right of the window, click the navigation buttons to move through the list of tags:
    1. Click the > button to advance to the next page.
    2. Click the < button to go back one page.
    3. Click the >| button to advance to the last page.
    4. Click the |< button to go back to the first page.

Searching for Tags

To make it easier to find a specific tag, the Tag Management utility includes a search feature.

To search for a tag:

  1. In the Tag Management window, click the Project dropdown menu, then select the appropriate project.
  2. In the Search box, enter the name, the first few characters, or a keyword of the tag to locate. The list of matching project tags updates with each entered character.

Adding New Tags

New tags can be added to projects as needed.

To add a tag to a project:

  1. In the Tag Management window, click the Project dropdown menu, then select the appropriate project.
  2. Click the Add New Tag (+) button.
  3. In the text field, enter a name for the tag.
  4. Click the Change Color (palette) icon to select a color for the tag. Either click a color within the color picker, or manually enter the desired Hex/RGB values in the appropriate fields to select a specific color. The palette icon changes to match the selected color.
  5. Click the checkmark icon () to create the tag, or click the cancel icon (X) to discard it.

Unlinking Entities from Tags

Expanding a tag's details shows all the entities linked to the tag. These entities can be unlinked from the tag as needed.

To unlink an entity from a tag:

  1. In the Tag Management window, click the Project dropdown menu, then select the project containing the appropriate tag.
  2. Click the Expand button beside the appropriate tag.
  3. In the Linked Entities table, locate the row of the entity to unlink.
  4. In the entity's Action column, click the Unlink button.

Editing Tags

Tag details can be modified as necessary.

To edit a tag:

  1. In the Tag Management window, click the Project dropdown menu, then select the project containing the appropriate tag.
  2. Locate the tag to edit in the list.
  3. In the tag's Actions column, click the Edit (✎) button.
  4. Click the Change Color (palette) icon to change the tag’s color, if necessary. Either click a color within the color picker, or manually enter the desired Hex/RGB values in the appropriate fields to select a specific color. The palette icon changes to match the selected color.
  5. In the text field, enter a new name for the tag if necessary.
  6. Click the checkmark icon () to save the changes, or click the cancel icon (X) to discard them.

Deleting Tags

Tags that are no longer needed, or were created in error, can be deleted from the projects where they reside.

To delete a tag:

  1. In the Tag Management window, click the Project dropdown menu, then select the project containing the appropriate tag.
  2. Locate the tag to delete in the list.
  3. In the tag's Actions column, click the Delete (trash can) button.
