Retaining Data

In some applications, data may not stay relevant after a certain amount of time has passed. As a result, this data will be used less frequently. It is usually not as important to have quick immediate access to data that is infrequently used. Therefore, it can be removed from "hot storage" after a predefined amount of time. The period during which the data is kept in hot storage is called the "retention time."

Retention can be set within each event type. When a data entry has been in a topic for more than the defined retention time, it is automatically moved to "cold" tiered storage. The data there remains accessible, but with a small latency. Take advantage of this setting to optimize data storage.
