Creating and Opening Projects

In order to work on a model, a project must be created for it. A project contains all of a model's artifacts. This organizational principle makes it possible to work on multiple independent models, each addressing its own domain or problem, without worrying about their artifacts intertwining or overlapping one another.

Creating New Projects​

There are three ways to create new projects:

Once created, projects are loaded into the system view, where modeling work can begin.

Creating Projects on the Actions Page​

To create a new project using the Actions page:

  1. Click Create a New Project. The Create Project window opens.
  2. In the Name field, enter a name for the project.
  3. In the Description field, enter a description for the project if desired.
  4. When finished, click Create to create the project, or Cancel to discard the project.

Creating Projects in the System Panel​

To create a new project using the system panel:

  1. In any view, click the system panel (☰) icon to open the system panel.
  2. Under Project Tasks, click New. The Create Project window opens.
  3. In the Name field, enter a name for the project.
  4. In the Description field, enter a description for the project if desired.
  5. When finished, click Create to create the project, or Cancel to discard the project.

Creating Projects on the Project Management Page​

To create a new project using the Project Management page:

  1. In any view, click the system panel (☰) icon to open the system panel.
  2. Under Other Tasks, click Projects. The Project Management page opens.
  3. Click the + icon at the top-right corner of the Projects table. The Create Project window opens.
  4. In the Name field, enter a name for the project.
  5. In the Description field, enter a description for the project if desired.
  6. When finished, click Create to create the project, or Cancel to discard the project.

Opening Existing Projects​

There are three ways to open existing projects:

Once opened, the system view contains the project.

Opening Projects on the Actions Page​

To open an existing project using the Actions page:

  1. Click Open an Existing Project.
  2. In the Select Project window, click the project to open. (Optionally, hover the cursor over a project to show its details.)
  3. Click Open.

Opening Projects in the System Panel​

To open an existing project using the system panel:

  1. In any view, click the system panel (☰) icon to open the system panel.
  2. Under Project Tasks, click Open.
  3. In the Select Project window, click the project to open. (Optionally, hover the cursor over a project to show its details.)
  4. Click Open.

Opening Projects on the Project Management Page​

To open an existing project using the Project Management page:

  1. In any view, click the system panel (☰) icon to open the system panel.
  2. Under Other Tasks, click Projects. The Project Management page opens.
  3. In the Projects table, locate the project to be opened.
  4. In the project's Actions column, click the Open icon.

Note

For convenience, the system panel lists the three most recently opened projects under the Recent section. Click the Launch button beside a recent project to open it.
